WAMU-FM (Washington, D.C.) PHIT4DC Discussion

The pandemic showed health officials in the DC region that public health data systems are not equipped to handle an outbreak of disease. Local universities are trying to improve that system, the University of the District of Columbia and Howard University have teamed up to offer a free 15-week course in public health Informatics open to anyone from medical students, and to high schoolers and to residents with no experience in healthcare at all. The program is designed to train the next generation of public health data scientists Charlotte Washington one of the program managers talked teenagers through the course last semester. It was great to see that level of creativity and that next level of foot coming through our pipelines in high school for the upcoming fall semester.
